One of the most common questions we get before a booking is simple: do I need the full package, or just the exterior? It's a fair question — nobody wants to pay for work their car doesn't actually need. Here's how we'd think about it.
What Each Package Actually Covers
Exterior-only detailing focuses on the paint, wheels, glass and trim — a hand wash, decontamination, and depending on the service level, polishing or coating. Interior-only focuses on seats, carpets, dash and trim — vacuuming, steam cleaning, and conditioning. The combined package covers both in one visit, which is usually the more efficient option if your car needs attention in both areas.
| Situation | Best Fit |
|---|---|
| Paint looks dull but interior is tidy | Exterior-only |
| Interior has sand, stains or odour but paint is fine | Interior-only |
| Family car, regular use, beach or pets | Combined package |
| Pre-sale or trade-in prep | Combined package |
| Newer car, light general upkeep | Exterior-only, with occasional interior refresh |
Worth knowing: if you're only ever going to book one detail this year, the combined package is almost always the better value — most of the callout and setup time is shared between interior and exterior work, so doing both in one visit costs less than booking them separately.
How Often Should You Book Each Type?
Exterior maintenance is generally more frequent — every 1–3 months keeps contamination from bonding to the paint. Interior detailing can usually stretch to every 3–6 months unless the car sees heavy beach, pet or family use, in which case every 3 months keeps things properly under control.
What We Recommend
If it's your first detail with us, or it's been over 6 months since your last one, start with the combined package — it gives us a full picture of the car's condition and sets a clean baseline. From there, most Southern Gold Coast customers settle into a rhythm of regular exterior maintenance with a full interior refresh every few months.
